“Don’t tell pastor, but I drink a beer once in a while and enjoy a glass of wine with a meal. I don’t drink a lot, just occasionally. It’s good for you, you know. Light or even moderate drinking decreases the risk of heart attack. Besides, it calms me down.” Conventional wisdom, bolstered by recent, highly publicized studies, have encouraged light to moderate alcohol consumption on the basis of its supposed health benefits.
