Recently, Jan and I sat down to watch “The Inn Of Sixth Happiness” – a 1958 Hollywood movie starring Ingrid Bergman about the life and ministry of Gladys Aylward. Aylward was a British maid who longed to serve God in China, and did so in the years leading up to World War II in spite of the fact that she was rejected for missionary service because she was “unqualified”. Characteristically, Hollywood played up a non-existent romantic interest and played down Aylward’s commitment to share the Gospel, but they captured her spirit and love for the people. Her passion for the people of China is a reminder to us at home that missionaries bond with the people they serve. They come to love them in a way most of us can’t understand. This young girl went to the other side of the world to serve the Lord. I suspect God would be very pleased with us if we would serve Him with that kind of devotion right here in Colorado Springs.
