SIXTEEN
Sixteen years ago four groups of men hijacked commercial airliners
with murderous intent. Three of those groups flew the planes and their
occupants into iconic American landmarks. The fourth group was
thwarted in their attempt to attack either the White House or Congress
(we don’t know which) by everyday-people-turned-heroes and plowed
their plane into a Pennsylvania field. It was a tragic day in American
history. Life in America changed…permanently. Radical Islam, TSA, 9-
11, Allahu Akbar, security lines, Patriot Day, Twin Towers, Shanksville –
all became household words. Last month, we hosted a man, Steve
Scheibner, who was personally connected to those events.
As negative as some of the changes have been, they remind us of
something that is very positive. “Jesus Christ – the same yesterday,
today, and forever.” (Heb. 13:8) No matter what happens, no matter
who attacks or how our culture twists and turns in response, we have
an anchor in Christ. He is always there and always the same. He is
never taken by surprise and never reacts to events in panic or
uncertainty. What does tomorrow hold? I don’t know, but I know this:
my Savior is already there and He holds my hand.
