In the debate over the sanctity of life, abortion advocates are quick to point out that some churches and ministers are in favor of legal abortion – that they see it as a compassionate choice and the right of a woman over her own body. Rarely in that discussion does the word “death” pass their lips because they don’t want you to picture what actually happens.
Regardless of how some churches, pastors and theologians have come to view abortion, God’s perspective has never changed. In the beginning, He breathed life into Adam. Death was judgment for sin. Through Moses, He counseled Israel to “choose life”. “Life and good” were set against “death and evil” as the choice Israel had to make (Deut. 30:15, 19). John informs us that “in Him [Christ] was life” (John 1:4) and that God’s love was so great that He gave His Son so that everyone who believes will enjoy everlasting life (John 3:16). The end of the story is life, forever in the presence of God (Rev. 20-22). Our God is a God of life. Abortion is a path of death. Death is a choice man makes in opposition to God.
